How to Clean a Virus & Trojan Off an Apple iMac


While viruses and trojans designed to attack the Mac operating system are rare, they do exist and can wreak havoc on a user's computer once they have infected the system. Malicious software can open new security holes in your computer, delete important system files, download new threats and can generally make using your computer frustrating and difficult. Getting rid of infections on your Mac is similar to getting rid of them on a Windows computer.


Instructions

ClamXav
       

  1. Download and install the ClamXav software by following the link in Resources.
  2. Open ClamXav by clicking the icon on your dock.
  3. Click "Start Scan" to scan your computer for malicious software files.
  4. Delete all harmful files by dragging them into the trash.

iAntivirus

  1. Download and install the iAntivirus software via the link in Resources.
  2. Open iAntivirus by clicking the icon on your dock.
  3. Click "Scan my Mac" to begin the scan.
  4. Click "Remove threats" to get rid of any detected harmful software.

MacScan

  1. Download and install MacScan using the provided link.
  2. Open MacScan by clicking the icon on your dock.
  3. Click "Scan" to being the scan.
  4. Click "Remove threats" to permanently delete any detected malware.
