How to Defragment Files on a Mac Computer

Older Mac computers won't auto-defragment their hard drives. You would need software like the Disk Defrag to do it. Read on to learn how to defragment files on a Mac computer.

Instructions

  1. Download Disk Defrag from the Version Tracker website.
  2. Install the program and run it.
  3. Once that is done, select the hard drive that you wish to defrag and click on the "Defrag" button.
  4. Your Mac will start to defragment the hard drive. You might want to leave the computer on overnight for it to complete its task.

Tips & Warnings

The process will take a while. It's best to do this just before going to sleep.

Do not defragment your drives too often as this increases wear and tear.
