How to Eliminate Norton on a Mac

Norton products, created by Symantec, are notoriously difficult to remove from Mac OS X. Although the programs have uninstallers, they typically leave various files on your Mac intact instead of erasing them. The only way to totally eliminate any trace of Norton products from your Mac is to run the RemoveSymantecMacFiles removal utility which you can download from the Symantec website.

Instructions

1 Go to the Norton website and click on the "Download Now" button for the Remove Symantec Mac Files program.

2 Double-click to open "RemoveSymantecMacFiles.zip" from your desktop.

3 Open the folder inside of the zip file and double-click on the RemoveSymantecMacFiles.command file that is located there.

4 Enter your administrator password and click "OK."

5 Type "1" and click "Return" on your keyboard. Wait for the Norton files to be eliminated from your Mac computer.
