How to Remove Trojans From Mac-Apple PCs

A Trojan is a type of computer virus that appears to be a legitimate program, but instead has malicious intent. The difference between a Trojan and a traditional virus is the fact that a Trojan does not spread itself, rather, a Trojan is passed along by unaware users. Mac computer users who want to protect themselves from or remove Trojans have a few software options available to them.

Instructions

  1. Install Avast! Mac Edition (see References). Avast! can protect your Mac from traditional viruses as well as Trojans. Start the Avast! application and choose to do a full system scan to remove any Trojans already on your system and be sure to run the software regularly to keep your system clean.
  2. Download ClamXav (see References). This free virus checker can keep your Mac clear of Trojans and viruses that come from websites, emails and other sources. If you'd like to scan your entire system and remove any Trojans, start ClamXav and set the scan folder to the root of your hard drive.
  3. Use iAntiVirus (see References). This application is also free and can guard your Mac computer against any Trojans, viruses or worms that may come your way. The iAntiVirus application also runs in the background, killing off threats as they present themselves. To remove Trojans from your Mac with iAntiVirus, start the program and choose a full system scan.
